The History
Welcome to Lake Toba
In Lake Toba, there are five islands, Samosir Island(the populated one), Tulas Island, Sibandang Island, Malau Island, and Tolping Island, meaning that Lake Toba is undeniably abundant with panoramic views. Lake Toba is not only the most prominent volcanic lake in the world but also one of the deepest lakes in the world, ranked in ninth place. It is so big that it connects seven regencies of NorthSumatra. Mount Toba’s third eruption caused its existence, and until today Mount Toba is still reportedly an active volcano. Despite its danger, local people are living around Lake Toba, keeping the area bright and full of life.

How to get there
Lake Toba is an extraordinary natural wonder of the world. This enormous crater lake consists of an island almost the size of Singapore in its centre. At over 1,145 square km, and a depth of 450 meters, Lake Toba is actually more like an ocean. This is the largest lake in Southeast Asia and one of the deepest lakes in the world.
Plane
To reach Lake Toba, visitors must first fly to North Sumatra and then go on the road. Regarding flights, there are two interna tional airports on Sumatra Island, Kualanamu International Airport in Medan (KNO) and Sisingamaraja XII International Airport (DTB) (previously Silangit International Airport). Kualanamu International Airport is relatively bigger than Sisingamaraja XII Int ernational Airport. Therefore, Kualanamu International Airport serves more airlines and destinations
On the Road
In reality, there are endless routes to reach Lake Toba, ranging from the shortest until the longest routes. However, since we are talking about the most convenient routes for travellers, there are three options to enter Lake Toba, namely Parapat, Simalem, and Balige. It should be noted that the location of Kualanamu Airport is near Parapat and Simalem. Meanwhile, the location of Sisingamaraja XII Airport is near Balige.
