Flight
To reach Lake Toba, you have to fly to North Sumatra or around. There are two international airports that popular to use on Sumatra Island. There are Kualanamu International Airport in Medan (KNO) and Sisingamaraja XII International Airport (DTB) (previously Silangit International Airport). Kualanamu International Airport is relatively bigger than Sisingamaraja XII International Airport. Therefore, Kualanamu International Airport serves more airlines and destinations, especially Jakarta. After arriving at the airport, you can take a taxi (conventional or online) to Lake Toba. Besides a taxi, you can take the car rent or bus company if you go with many persons.
By The Road
From Jakarta, it actually takes a really long road to reach Lake Toba. But if you are a true road traveller, you can take this recommendation. First thing first, you have to go to Merak Harbour to take a ferry to Bakauheni Lampung. For common, it takes nearly 6-7 hours from Jakarta to reach Lampung. From Lampung, you can go either by Sumatera Trans Toll Road or Provincial highway and visit many cities. It can take 2-3 days if you drive relaxed, or 1-2 days if you drive like Dominic Toretto in Fast and Furious. Thumbs up if you take the road to Lake Toba.
