Legendary Volcano Mountain, Merapi. In the deep part of Java, there is an active volcano that looms over Borobudur Temple, giving a depth of composition in the view of its skyline.

This volcano is called Merapi, derived from the old Javanese language that meant “the one making fire”, and it is feared for its deadly pyroclastic flows. Merapi volcano is also very respected highly in the region.

It is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia, erupting every two to five years. However, many people settle near the volcano due to its property of bringing fertile soil to crops from its lava to its settlements. The Merapi Volcano Mountain is also known to be a freshwater source due to its high volcanic activity, which gives out water vapour pressure from the earth.

If the volcano doesn’t have much activity, it is open to visitors who love hiking and the outdoors. Many tours are offered to scale the volcanic mountain through trekking, hikes, or riding an all-terrain jeep on the area to explore the land. It is advised to explore the area during sunrise, where it gives a foggy glow towards the view of the land surrounding the volcano.
