Vesak Day is a holiday celebration for the people who are following the Buddhist religion. The celebrations that are done for Vesak day are to honour the Holy Three of Buddha—dharmakaya (essence), sambhogakaya (enjoyment) and nirmanakaya (transformation).

In Indonesia, Vesak Day is regarded as a national holiday to respect those who celebrate it. One of those places where you can visit to see how exciting the festivities are celebrated is at Borobudur Temple. The Borobudur temple, which is one of the many wonders of the world, is one of the largest still-operational Buddhist temples globally, even though it is used for tourism most of the time.

At this time, visitors could enjoy the festivities of Vesak Day celebrations, and they are advised to dress modestly to respect the people who celebrate the holiday. During Vesak Day, one of the world’s largest celebrations is held in the temple’s compounds, which the sacred celebration could last about a week. The celebration includes a three-kilometre-long carnival bringing devotion pujas in the compounds that also brought replicas of Buddha, the holy book, water and fire. As a closing of the carnival, lanterns are flown into the sky by followers of the Buddhist religion and visitors who wanted to participate in this activity.

If you want to visit Borobudur Temple during Vesak Day, beware of the hoard of people trying to celebrate their holiday in the temple. There are also celebrations in the other Buddhist temples near the Borobudur Temple, such as the Mendut Temple, the Sewu Temple and the Plaosan Temple, which all connect to the huge celebration at the Borobudur Temple compound. However, if you want to see the unique traditions of celebrating Vesak Day at the Borobudur temple, please be mindful of other people and submerge yourself into enjoying the holiday there.
