Punthuk Setumbu
Perfect View Punthuk Setumbu. The Borobudur temple is one of the world’s beauties, seen from many angles, inside the compound or outside.
There is an interesting place where you can see the Borobudur temple’s view in its glory during sunrise or sunset with a perfect view of the Merapi volcano mountain behind a fog of clouds that cover the Borobudur temple. This place is called Punthuk Setumbu. Punthuk Setumbu is a hill located in Menoreh Mountain, which was once just a plain field maintained by the locals.
The place is found by photographer Suparno, who is vocal about Indonesia’s cultural heritage, especially about the area around Borobudur. His photography post about Punthuk Setumbu went viral on social media, which blew up the scenery spot. Nearby Punthuk Setumbu, there is a church in the shape of a chicken, within walking distance of the scenic spot. To get to Punthuk Setumbu, it takes about 10 minutes from the Borobudur Temple compound. However, it is 44 km away from Yogyakarta, which takes about an hour’s worth of driving in a car. It also takes about 30 minutes from the centre of the city of Magelang.
The entrance fee to Punthuk Setumbu is Rp 50.000 for International visitors. This price did not include parking, which depends on the type of transportation used to get there. Visitors need to climb up the stairs that paved the way to the observation spot of the scenery.
The scenery spot is famously hunted by sunrise catchers, who wanted a glimpse of the sunrise overlooking the Borobudur temple’s view and the Merapi volcano mountain beneath a fog of clothes. Visitors can also camp out at night at the spot to the night of Magelang.
