Waru-Waru Beach in Sempu Island is known to be a hidden gem in the district of Malang in Indonesia. Though Malang is famous for its large raging waves on its beaches, Waru-Waru Beach has calm waves perfect for children to wade in.

This beach is the first stop for travellers to take picturesque moments before accessing the ride to Segoro Anakan at Sempu Island, a natural mangrove forest in the middle of the Island. This is why Sempu Island is regarded as a conservation island site, due to the undeveloped exotic domination of mangrove trees, which welcomes various flora and fauna to the area.

Waru Waru Beach is the destination to take picture-perfect moments with the area’s soft white sands on the clean beach, exotic trees, and glimpses of contrasting water shades seen on the beach. If you are lucky, you can find many wild animals on this conservation island, such as monkeys on land and fellow jellyfish and tiny fish wading in the friendly waters. So you can lounge under the sun, fish in the waters and swim in the calm waters under the trees while visiting the place. It might feel like your own private island due to not many visitors travelling to the area, as well as the environment of thick mangrove trees surrounding the beach area.

To get to Sempu Island from Malang, it takes around two hours to get to the first stop, Sendang Biru Beach. It will help you rent a boat to cross the waters to Sempu Island from the beach, stopping at Waru Waru Beach, which costs around Rp 150.000 for a roundtrip. It is suggested to travel to the island during the dry season to avoid the strong winds and rain during the rainy season. As a conservation island, you should bring your own food and water and a container to pick up your own trash around the island.
