Wae Rebo Village

Wae Rebo, the most beautiful traditional village in Indonesia. Wae Rebo was declared UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage in August 2012, leaving aside 42 other countries.

This village is located in Ruteng, Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, with 1,200 meters above sea level. Because of its location at an altitude, to reach Wae Rebo Village, you climb for 7 km, you need extra energy by walking for about 3-4 hours.

Traditional house in East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT) is called Mbaru Niang House. Mbaru Niang traditional house is cone-shaped and has five floors with a height of about 15 meters. For residents of Wae Rebo, Mbaru Niang is a symbol of protection, community unity, and being the centre of social activities of the community, especially related to existing issues. The shape is unique, like a cone barn. In this place, there are only 7 traditional houses. Six to eight families inhabit the house. Mbaru Niang consists of five floors with a roof of lontar leaves and covered by palm fibre.

Another Interesting thing when you are in Wae Rebo is that you’ll be in one Mbaru Niang provided specifically to welcome tourists travelling. Banquet in the form of Flores Coffee as a welcome drink in Mbaru Niang. Specially provided for travellers who want to stay overnight equipped with blankets and pillows. In addition, handicrafts such as coffee, vanilla and cinnamon bark are used as souvenirs that you can take home at an affordable price.

Its natural beauty is tough to describe in words. Wae Rebo has a soft spot in a million heart people; every corner of this place is beautiful. They call it “Negri above the clouds”. A thin fog will descend slowly from the surrounding hills and blanket the entire village with fog. It is not difficult to fall in love with this beautiful and beautiful village. You can feel the uniqueness of culture, customs, friendliness of its citizens and local wisdom that still feels strong in this village.
